About This Event
York Theatre Royal is proud to partner with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to bring
Shakespeare Nation
to our community. This unique national programme invites adults of all ages to explore Shakespeare’s plays in fresh, accessible, and creative ways—whether you’re completely new to theatre or returning after a break.
These sessions are specifically designed for adults (18+) who have lived experience of mental health challenges or who access mental health services.
What to Expect:
Weekly, friendly workshops with guest artists from the RSC
A chance to explore well-known Shakespeare plays through discussion, performance, and storytelling
Opportunities to contribute to larger creative projects, attend live productions, and even perform
A welcoming space—no pressure, just shared creativity and community
Open to adults (18+) in York and the surrounding areas- with experience of poor mental health, who access mental health services, have never acted before, or feel Shakespeare “isn’t for them.”
Whether you’re curious, creative, or just want to try something new—you’re welcome here.
